Ms. Darlene Hunter
2nd Degree Black Belt / Chief Instructor
CPR Instructor / Registered Nurse
Ms. Darlene Hunter is currently the Chief Instructor and School Owner of Choi Kwang-Do Conyers. She presently holds the rank of 2nd Degree Black Belt. Ms. Hunter began her martial arts career in June 2001 along with her son, DeVaughn Brown (age 2), where they practiced Tang Soo Do under the training of Mr. and Mrs. Jordan until May 2002. They had to take a break from training due to an unforeseen family mishap.
In August of 2002, Ms. Hunter and her son were introduced to the World of Choi Kwang Do, under the instruction of Mr. Charles Spence Jr. The movements were much easier to learn, and less stressful on the body, although the switch of arts made me feel as if I had two left feet. I had to be retrained from all of the rigid techniques of one art to sequential movement of another art. My body was more relaxed after training and not so stressed out. Ms. Hunter and DeVaughn both began to excel in the Life of Choi Kwang-Do. They had the honor and privilege to meet the man (Sahjonim Choi) who found this great art at their 1st white belt testing. It was truly an amazing day; the Georgia demo team was awesome. DeVaughn couldn’t stop talking about them, and how much he couldn’t wait to be a part of a demo team.
DeVaughn and Ms. Hunter were able to see Sahjonim Choi in action at the Georgia Seminar. All they could say was “WOW” what an amazing person he is, the way he moves, he makes it all look so easy. He was such an inspiration to us both; Ms. Hunter felt she could strive to be that flexible after seeing Sahjonim Choi in action.
Ms. Hunter, later obtained her Certification as an Assistant Instructor, Head Instructor of the CKD Lithonia School and now Chief Instructor of CKD Conyers. Mr. DeVaughn Brown who is now 8 years old, has been granted the honors of being a member of the Black Belt Club, has remained a straight A, honor roll student, has received several citizenship awards and recognitions for being a model student, and currently holds the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt. He continues to excel in and out of the Dojang, still striving to make the Demo Team.
When Ms. Hunter is not training or teaching Choi Kwang Do, She is utilizing her nursing skills as an Emergency Department Registered Nurse. She is also serving the Country as a Captain in the U.S.A Army Reserve.
